In a world that is becoming increasingly divided, people are weary of judgment and starving for acceptance. Even in places that should be open and safe, many have felt unwelcome. By simply living God’s love, Worthington United Methodist Church has become a place where everyone can feel welcome and accepted.

Worthington UMC and St. John’s Episcopal Church are again partnering with Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) to welcome a refugee or immigrant family. Please fill out this form if you’d like to help. Pastor Dom Short Mejia will connect with you to offer next steps as more information becomes available. We anticipate welcoming the family in October or November.
Please mark your calendars for Rally Day on September 15, 2024. Following the 10am worship service, we will gather on the church lawn for lunch, fellowship, play, and opportunities to come together in ministry and mission. Rally Day will feature the debut of the newest edition of our church history, the kickoff of our new Everyday Grace bag ministry (please check out the list of suggested items for donation here), and information about other ways to connect within and beyond our WUMC church family.
The church will provide wraps, including gluten-free and vegetarian options. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share – the Golden Spoon award will again be in play! As we continue to take small steps toward sustainability, we encourage you to bring your own place setting (plate, cup, silverware). We will also have place settings available for those who need them.
Rev. Cal Holloway has been a valued member of the WUMC ministry team since 2020. He has been a powerful force in the Northland Star Partnership by connecting agencies and institutions with the needs of the underserved who live in the Northland Community. He has been a wonderful community organizer, and our thanks go out to him. I regret to inform you that the Northland project has come to its conclusion and Rev. Cal will be moving on to another appointment. We will have a celebration for Cal on September 8 following the 10am worship service. Please find a moment to express your appreciation of his ministry with and for us. Cards for Cal will be collected in the office for your convenience.
The book of Genesis combines history, poetry, folklore, genealogy, and theology to begin telling the story of who God is and how God relates to humanity. There’s a reason that it serves as the first book in our Bible! Join Pastor Dom in a 10-week study of this crucial text as we explore and unpack what it means for us today.
The study will gather on Monday nights at 7pm on Zoom, beginning September 16 and ending November 18. Participants should expect to read five chapters of scripture each week. Some of the readings may be disturbing as they contain accounts of violence. This class is open to those with all levels of biblical knowledge.
