September 20, 2021 Over the past 18 months, we have ridden the ever -changing tides of COVID -19 infection rates and restrictions. We have been patiently waiting for everything to return to normal so we can return to our previous activities. However, 18 month later, the pand emic is still disrupting so many of the connections we hold dear. Our theme for 2021 -2022 is: Reconnecting , to re -establish a bond of communication and emotion. We will focus on reconnecting with God, our church members and ministries, our community, an d the church as a whole. We need to be sure that our new normal which we are living in now reconnects us to our church and ministries! 2021 brings about a lot of changes for WUMC. Dominic Short Mejia joined as our associate pastor in June, and Cal Hollow ay is leading the Northland Star Partners effort. In November, Cyndy Garn will retire, and we will welcome Lou Seipel as our new senior pastor. Through all of these pastoral changes, one thing remains the same: God’s love and care. This time of transit ion in church leadership is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with the congregation - your brothers and sisters in Christ - to support each other as we navigate these changes together as one family. On Rally Day, Rev. Dr. Bias asked us in his sermon, “Who ’s going to say the blessing?” We have all been blessed and are in God’s favor. “Being quiet when you have been blessed, is not a good thing,” he said. Rev. Bias challenged each of us to say the blessing, to go into the world and share the Good News of God’s love and grace with all people. “If you want to meet Jesus, get out of the sanctuary and into the community.” Are you ready to say the blessing? At WUMC, there are so many opportunities to fulfill Rev. Bias’ challenge. You will find plenty of opt ions in the enclosed material that will allow you to participate in a manner in which you feel safe. In these times, it takes working together and being open to new ways and ideas to share God’s grace and love for all people. We ask God to help us as toge ther we celebrate the blessings and opportunities we have been given and generously share through our financial gifts. As a first step in reconnecting, we ask you to commit to WUMC and our ministries through your prayer, presence, witness, gifts, and servi ce. The way you share these gifts and connect may look differently in 2021 -2022 than it did before 2020. Your “presence” may be virtual. Your service may be from home or in a format new to you. Let prayer lead you as you determine how to be generous w ith your gifts and make a difference in the world. Commitment Sunday is October 10. If you are in worship that day, you will be able to deliver your commitments. Otherwise, they may be mailed or completed on -line. The details are enclosed. In service wit h you.
