Next Steps in Lent 2020

Dear Friends and Members of Worthington UMC,

In the interest of being good neighbors and following the recommendations of our experts in community health, we will not be holding worship services for at least the next two Sundays (March 15 and 22). There is great resistance to cancelling a worship service at any time, but during the season of Lent it is even less desired.  However, in listening to our medical and health department experts, it seems apparent that we must slow down the epidemic of the coronavirus in order that hospitals and medical care are not overtaken and persons with all illnesses have the treatment that is needed.  As people of faith we remain concerned about our neighbors, particularly those who are most vulnerable.  Thus we will not meet for worship.

We do encourage you to watch for updates which will be coming through email/eblast, the website, and the facebook page. We will be providing you with resources that you can use for your own study and worship and encourage you to take this Sabbath time to explore Biblical passages, the Lenten Calendar, devotional booklets like the Upper Room and the Disciplines or other resources you may have.  Use this time to gather with friends for a small study or to listen to music together or watch a movie and discuss it.

At this time we can tell you that the Children’s Musical on March 29 will be postponed, as will the CPC Art Gala and the Illuminati Concert. We do not have new dates at this time.

Early next week, many leaders of this congregation will be meeting and we will make decisions about the next period of time.  We will update you shortly thereafter and will try to keep updates coming to you in various ways.

Thank you for your patience with us and each other as we move through this time together.    What we hold in common is the fortunate aspect that we have not had experience with this exact type of situation before.  Please let us know if you are in need of anything with which we can help and feel free to share your prayer concerns and joys. You can call the church office 614-885-5365 or email Cyndy Garn at, Ashley Gerard at, John Girard at or John Ma at

Please know we will be praying for you and appreciate your prayers for us, each other and our world. Remember to explore meaningful ways to move through Lent and discover new ways you experience God.
