The Creative Play Center is located within the Worthington United Methodist Church, and is a highly respected center within the Columbus area.  We are seeking a full-time, state qualified Executive Director.

The CPC Program is based on the Reggio Emilia Educational Model.  The Director will implement and promote the Reggio Emilia approach throughout the program, ensuring that principles such as child-centered learning, project-based curriculum, and a strong emphasis on creativity and collaboration are embedded in all aspects of the preschool.

The Executive Director reports directly to the CPC Board and works closely with the Board in all aspects of the organizations management, fundraising, marketing, finances, programming, strategic planning, and organizational development.

We maintain a safe, healthy, nurturing, and engaging environment for children, where all social, emotional, and cognitive developmental needs are addressed. Opportunities are provided for children to take responsibility, make decisions, and learn through play with their peers and teachers.

Responsibilities:

The child center manager is responsible to plan, organize, implement, coordinate, and control the services of the childcare program, exercising independent judgment and decision-making authority as delegated, including budget, policies, procedure, and staff supervision. Under general supervision, the manager operates the childcare program to conform with institutional regulations and state day care licensing provisions. Responsibilities include the overall management of the centers early childhood program and its operation, facilitating, planning, and coordinating of the children’s education programs and activities.

  • Facilitate positive relations among Preschool Staff, parents, and the Center.
  • Support a learning-oriented organizational culture that emphasizes quality experiences for children, collaborative relationships, continuous improvement, and high performance by developing curriculum.
  • Define policies of admission, attendance, tuition and educational goals and establish all other necessary policies procedures or rules pertaining to the operation of the CPC.
  • Promotes a safe, nurturing, healthy, positive, caring environment where self-concepts are enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality respected.
  • Maintain accurate records on children to include development, attendance, immunization, and general health; maintain accurate waiting lists.
  • Develop and maintain parental rapport: keeping parents informed of their child’s daily experiences and center activities.
  • Recruiting, training, supervising and retaining quality staff.
  • Plan, develop, schedule and/or provide in-service training and staff evaluations.
  • Foster and cultivate partnerships with other organizations.
  • Prepare and maintain administrative and business reports and records; record payments, bill late charges, collect delinquencies; review financial reports; analyze problems in these areas and make recommendations to resolve them.
  • Work with the WUMC Facilities Manager regarding inspections, permitting, code compliance, capital projects and maintenance and repair.

Staff Supervision/Employee Relations:

  • Have knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum, interactions and environments.
  • Oversee and assist the Preschool Staff in administering, planning and evaluating activities and lesson plans that promote developmental-appropriate learning.
  • Train and supervise the Preschool Staff by holding regular meetings, mediating minor disagreements, and assisting in the classroom when necessary.
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and promote professional development, training, and staff meetings.
  • Regularly monitor staff performance and provide coaching or mentoring for performance improvement and development.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and work with staff to ensure high performance and to promote a positive employee relations environment.
  • Conduct Preschool Staff performance evaluations.
  • Arrange for substitute help for the Preschool Staff (and serve as a substitute as needed).
  • Coordinate recruitment and hiring to fill Preschool Staff vacancies and make hiring recommendations to the Center Leadership.

Administration:

  • Primary responsibility for handling day-to-day administration of the Preschool, including determination of all schedules, assignment of Preschool Staff responsibilities, and utilization of office/classroom space and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing requirements of the Department of Social Services Department, and all other applicable county, state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with all governmental and regulatory bodies in connection with the Preschool, including Worthington United Methodist Church.
  • Plan and implement health and safety programs including universal health precautions, emergency procedures, and facility and equipment safety.

Fiscal Responsibilities:

  • Work with the CPC’s Board and Worthington UMC Finance Committee to prepare an annual budget for approval.
  • Responsible for operation of the CPC pursuant to an approved budget, including collection of enrollment fees and tuition, purchase of routine equipment and supplies, and handling of routine banking transactions in accordance with established financial policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Must meet licensing requirements, including one of the following:

  1. A. in early childhood education and two years of teaching experience in a childcare center,
  2. A. in early childhood education and one year of teaching experience in a childcare center,
  3. Or, coursework only and four years of teaching experience in a child care center. Demonstrate a working knowledge of current childcare center regulations and policies. Prior Preschool Director Experience is preferred.

Specialized Training and/or Licensing:

  • Must have current Adult, Infant and Child CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Must participate in training related to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, the risks and prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome and related brain development research.
  • Minimum of thirty (30) hours of continuing education training:  6 hours in the area of management and staff supervision; 6 hours in child development or early childhood education required.
